The HammingBio Symposium is a passion project created by a small group of founders, researchers, and community organizers. There are also many others whose names are not listed here, but whose insights and intros helped make this unconference possible.

  • Jason Benn

    FOUNDER, The Neighborhood

    Jason Benn is a self-taught machine learning engineer currently leading the Neighborhood, a vibrant community project in San Francisco. His professional background includes roles as a machine learning researcher at Generally Intelligent and the founding machine learning engineer at Sourceress. Benn transitioned from finance to technology in 2013, teaching himself programming and subsequently delving into machine learning and AI research. Outside of work, he enjoys drumming, reading, and personal experimentation.

  • Lan Dao

    FOUNDER, PHYSICIAN RESEARCHER

    Lan is a physician with 5 years of research experience in machine learning and medicine. While in medical school, she published multiple peer-reviewed articles in surgery and interned at the Mila - Quebec AI Institute, where she led a clinical trial as principal investigator. As a freshly minted physician, she joined the Interact Fellowship and founded a venture-backed startup in reproductive tech, before joining the brain-computer interface company Science Corp as a physician researcher. In her free time, she reads, writes, and organizes events in San Francisco.

  • Kay Sorin

    EVENT PRODUCER, COMMUNITY ORGANIZER

    Kay Sorin is an event producer and community organizer based in SF and NYC. She works with creators, political leaders, and global brands to organize experiences and media campaigns that build connections. From running YouTube's largest creator event space in NYC and launching virtual events during the pandemic to hosting panels and unconferences with top AI companies, Kay has reached millions with her unique activations.

  • Noah McCallum

    FOUNDER, Eureka

    Noah has over 10 years of experience in technology and healthcare. He recently started Eureka, a company to disrupt real-world evidence and clinical trials, raising over $7M from Khosla Ventures and others. He was the second product manager at Forward Health and a data scientist at Microsoft in the AI & Research division. Before that he did drug discovery and medical device research at Harvard and MIT, with over 600 citations.

  • Tina Jia

    MACHINE LEARNING RESEARCHER, Nuro

    Tina is a Google and DeepMind alumnus, currently working as a machine learning engineer at Nuro. She has been obsessed with life science problems for the past year and is eager to learn more. Outside of work, she is a tea enthusiast and private pilot.
